Thousands arrive in Dundee for World Karate Championships
Organisers said the local economy could be boosted by almost £10m over the four-day event.
Thousands of athletes, trainers and supporters are arriving in Dundee as the World Karate Championships get under way.
The event is being held at the city's Ice Arena following a successful bid from Dundee-based Kanzen Karate Scotland.
Many of the world's top karateka will be taking part in the annual competition, with champions visiting schools across the city to inspire budding athletes.
Organisers say the local economy could be boosted by almost £10m over the four-day event.
On winning the bid in 2017, Kanzen Karate Scotland president Roy O'Kane said: "An event of this size will have a significant impact on our city whilst raising the profile of Scottish Karate more generally.
"It's a tremendous honour that the executive committee of the World Union of Karate-Do Federations have placed their trust in Kanzen Karate Scotland and the city of Dundee to deliver this competition, but we can and we will.
"We are really honoured to be playing our part in showcasing Dundee on the international stage."
