New app allows families to see what is on the lunch menu
The newly launched menu focuses on reducing the sugar content of the meals.
A new app to allow families and pupils instant access to the school lunch time menu has launched.
Using the Alexa app for Tayside School Dinners, parents can see the food options and nutritional values of their children's lunchtime meals.
The new menu focuses on reducing the sugar content by withdrawing fruit juice and limiting desserts to three days out of five.
Pupils across the region were consulted during the menu design process and helped in trials, and to restrict the use of processed foods, 70% of the menu is also prepared in-house.
Councillor Murray said: "I am pleased to help at the launch of this menu and to highlight the real balance and choice that it contains.
"Nutrition and healthy eating play are an important component of the health and wellbeing education that our pupils take part in.
"These are extremely important lessons for life and I am pleased to hear that Rowantree pupils are relating their knowledge to the dinner menu which helps them to choose their options.
"It is important that we encourage children to eat healthily and to carry that habit with them in the future
"I am also pleased to hear that the Alexa app is so popular and also allows pupils to see how technology can be applied to everyday uses in their lives."
