Popular half marathon saved as new sponsor steps in
The Aberdeenshire race at Crathes Castle faced an uncertain future.
A popular north east running event will take place this year after a new sponsor was found.
The Aberdeenshire half marathon at Crathes Castle faced an uncertain future until local firm Plant Integrity Management (PIM) offered to sponsor the event.
Now, the race is set to take place in September under the new name of the PIM Half Marathon at Crathes Castle.
Around 700 runners are expected at the September race, which is organised by the National Trust for Scotland (NTS).
Natasha Finlayson, NTS event organiser, said: "The half marathon is one of our most popular events and we are delighted that PIM came to our rescue and offered to sponsor the event to enable it to go ahead.
"With PIM on board, we hope to make this year's half marathon our best yet."
Starting at Crathes Castle, the race takes runners out onto flat country roads to the north and east of the estate grounds, through beautiful Aberdeenshire countryside.
This year's event will also feature a new 1.5km run for primary-aged children.
Martin Worth, PIM director, said his company came forward after seeing a post on Facebook stating the event might not run in 2018.
He added: "We're delighted to be able to step in and work with the National Trust for Scotland to ensure that this well-known, local event takes place.
"It's also fantastic to play a role in encouraging the next generation of runners to get their trainers on and enjoy the great outdoors with the introduction of the children's run."
