An Aberdeen writer has been awarded a Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship for 2018.

National charity Scottish Book Trust announced the four fellows to receive this year's recipients as Shane Strachan, Jenni Fagan, David Keenan and Theresa Muñoz.

The fellowship was initiated in 1994 to give writers a chance to escape the routine and distractions of everyday lives to devote time to their writing.

It provides residencies for the writers at the Hôtel Chevillon International Arts Centre at Grez-sur-Loing, France.

Previous fellows include Liz Lochhead, Janice Galloway, Jo Clifford, James Robertson and Louise Welsh.

Shane Strachan has lived in Aberdeen for more than a decade, with much of his work being inspired by the north east and its relationship with the wider world.

His fellowship project is a novelisation of the life of Bill Gibb, a farm boy from Aberdeenshire who went on to take the fashion world by storm in the 1970s, designing dresses worn by the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Bianca Jagger and Twiggy.

"It's something of a dream come true to have been offered an RLS Fellowship, especially at this pivotal time in my career when I needed this support (and confidence boost!) to transition from writing short to long-form fiction," Mr Strachan said.

"To have been granted devoted time to work on a project that I am highly passionate about really is a gift and I can't wait to head to Grez-sur-Loing and get writing."
