A number of items have been stolen after a parked car was broken into in Inverness.

The theft occurred while the Ford car was parked on Muirtown Street between 2.30pm on Monday and 8.45am on Tuesday.

Items of sports clothing and a small quantity of cash were taken from the vehicle, and Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses.

Constable Craig Findlater said: "We are appealing to anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously around the Muirtown Street area to pass this information on to us.

"I would also take the opportunity to remind people to make sure that they take steps to deter opportunistic thieves.

"Simple acts like double checking that your car is locked before you leave it unattended and not storing items in view from outside the vehicle can be enough to prevent you from becoming a victim of crime.

Anyone with information relating to this recent theft should call 101, quoting reference NN6362/18.
