Drivers are facing weekend diversions on the A90 southbound carriageway at Stonehaven.

The diversions via the new slip roads will be in place from around 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.

To facilitate the diversion, a short section of the B979 Netherley Road will also be closed.

The closures are to allow works on the new bridge which will carry the A90 over the B979 below.

There will be no access to the A90 via the new southbound slip road during these closures, and diversions will be signposted.

A representative for Transport Scotland said: "This weekend will see a significant, but temporary, change to road layout in Stonehaven and as such we would like to remind all road users to observe signage and drive with caution.

"Road users will not be permitted to use the southbound A90 mainline carriageway at Stonehaven and will instead be diverted off of the road via the diverge slip-road.

"They will then cross the B979 and re-join the A90 via the merge slip-road to continue their journey.

"To safely facilitate this diversion, it will also be necessary to close a short section of the B979 while this diversion is in place.

"Road users, including cyclists and pedestrians who would normally use the B979 at the weekend, should plan their journeys in advance and consider giving themselves additional travelling time, so that they can reach their destination safely and on time."
