Drivers in Dundee have been warned to watch their speed as an experimental 20mph zone goes live on city streets.

From Monday, traffic in and around The Glens and Johnston Avenue will be subject to the 20mph maximum for 12 months.

Signs and road markings have already been installed in prominent locations around the area in preparation for the start of the trial which will be reviewed by the council after a year.

Councillor Mark Flynn said: "There is no doubt that there is a move by some residents towards reducing speed limits in their communities and we need to listen and respond to what they have said.

"Our extensive consultation exercise demonstrated that while across the wider roads network in the city there is a narrow majority in favour of 20mph limits, it wasn't a significant and ringing endorsement that Dundonians are in favour of introducing a citywide strategy.

"So this trial will help us to find out more about how to balance residents' responses with the need to keep the city safely on the move as effectively and efficiently as possible.

"I am looking forward to seeing the hard evidence of the real effect that a 20mph zone has on people's road safety and wider health."
