Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has deployed 45 new appliances across the north east.

The £7m investment by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will see the fleet of vehicles used by retained crews.

The rapid response engines will also carry new technology that can cut through steel and concrete.

This comes after assistant chief officer for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Lewis Ramsay, apologised after engine shortages were reported in Aberdeen.

Chief fire officer Alasdair Hay said: "We're absolutely investing in front line staff - we're invested in their safety and through them, their communities.

"These vehicles don't just have the new firefighting technology on them, they also have the latest in cutting equipment.

"This means if you're unfortunate enough to be involved in a road traffic collision and you're trapped, then we've got the technology there to cut you out."
