A man has been charged with human trafficking offences after allegedly recruiting, transporting and harbouring prostitutes in Dundee.

Angus Binnie, 61, is alleged to have lived "wholly or in part on the earnings of prostitution" and to have allowed a flat in Weavers Loan, of which he was the tenant, to be used as a brothel.

He is accused of transporting one woman to an address in Mid Road between June 21 and 28 last year, and "exercising control, direction or influence" that showed he was "aiding, abetting or compelling" the prostitution.

He is further alleged to have harboured another woman between December 1, 2017 and January 20 this year at the Weavers Loan flat, and transported a third to a nearby address to work as a prostitute.

Further charges related to recruiting other women to work as prostitutes and to live wholly or in part on the earnings of prostitution.

Binnie, of Gauldry, Fife, made no plea to five charges under the Human Trafficking and Exploitation Act, and one under the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act during an appearance in private on petition at Dundee Sheriff Court.

Defence solicitor Stuart Hamilton asked for bail and agreed to special conditions on behalf of Binnie not to approach or contact the women allegedly involved.

Sheriff John Rafferty granted Binnie bail and continued the case for further examination ahead of further court dates being set.
