Perth poet William Soutar is being honoured with a permanent exhibition in his home town.

His Scots poetry, diaries and children's writings will be on display at AK Bell Library from Friday.

The poet's family home, an arts and crafts house in Craigie, still houses some of his books and artefacts.

Staff from Culture Perth and Kinross have been working with Soutar enthusiasts to collect items for the exhibition from Soutar House, which now hosts meetings, writers and literary groups.

Iain Mackintosh, chairman of the Friends of William Soutar, said: "We're delighted to have such a local and national treasure acknowledged like this.

"Soutar is beloved throughout Perth and is still a favourite in our primary schools, so we know there will be lots of interest in visiting the permanent exhibition."
