A fundraising event for Alzheimer's research has raised over £60,000.

Four novice singers performed after receiving a crash course from composer professor Paul Mealor, in the hope to raise money for Aberdeen University's Alzheimer's research.

Charlie Bain, organiser and singer, donned a matador outfit for his rendition of Bizet Carmen opera Toreador song, which she sang in French.

He was joined on stage by his fellow singing "newbies" Carol Benzie, managing director of Aberdeen International Airport, Sylvia Halkerston, consultant and non-executive director, and former chief executive of Wood Group, Bob Keiller.

Mr Keiller took on Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell, decked out with a flowing wig and trademark handkerchief, and Ms Benzie performed Be My Guest from Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

All four were coached by Mr Mealor, who composed the music for the royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and colleague Dr John Frederick Hudson.

The first-time singers were complimented by performances by Kristina Rihanoff and Robin Windsor, formerly of Strictly Come Dancing, and singer-songwriter Beth Sherburn.

This is the fifth event that Mr Bain has organised after being spurred on by witnessing what the disease was doing to his dad and father-in-law, both who succumbed to the disease within weeks of each other.

"I have to thank my fellow first-time singers for being such good sports," he said.

"Not everyone would be prepared to perform in front of such a big audience but we all got into the spirit and I think everyone was rooting for it to be a success and everyone was a winner."
