The historic Stephen Lawrence murder case is to be discussed at a keynote lecture by Orwell prize-winning journalist Brian Cathcart.

Robert Gordon University's School of Creative and Cultural Business will host the lecture by the author of The Case of Stephen Lawrence on Wednesday.

The teenage murder case that shocked the nation was intensified by the police investigation into the killing, allowing the murderers to remain free for 18 years.

The lecture will focus on the role the Daily Mail played in highlighting the injustice of the original investigation and its influence in bringing two of the perpetrators to justice.

"This is a case study in the rewriting of history by a powerful newspaper," Professor Cathcart said.

"The issues raised in the Stephen Lawrence case and the media coverage surrounding it are still relevant today to see how far the myth is removed from reality in this instance is to witness the continuing power of propaganda in a society that likes to consider itself sceptical."
