First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has unveiled a newly-expanded mill that is expected to boost the forestry sector after a £95m investment.

Ms Sturgeon met staff as she visited the upgraded Norbord plant in Inverness, which benefited from a £12m development grant from Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

The mill has been expanded and modernised to significantly increase its capacity to produce oriented strand board, a type of wooden board also known as sterling board.

Ms Sturgeon said: "Norbord's £95m expansion of its Dalcross plant is one of the largest single inward investments made into Scotland.

"It will significantly increase capacity and demonstrates the vibrancy of the Scottish forestry sector.

"This is a welcome investment for the Highlands that will secure a long-term future for the factory.

"It has received more than £12m support from Highlands and Islands Enterprise and is expected to generate £37m gross value added of new economic activity for the Scottish economy each year, of which £22m would be retained within the HIE area."
