Braemar Castle was built in 1628 and played a major role in the story of the Jacobites.
Weapons from the 1715 uprising have gone on display, reflecting the castle's strong military past.
The castle was occupied by Government redcoats for over 80 years after the Battle of Culloden.
Monday marked 272 years since that crushing Jacobite defeat.
Braemar Castle Manager Georgina Errington said: "If you come to the exhibition you are going to see lots of weapons, swords, guns, shields, a drum, all quite exciting items.
"Some of them haven't been on show before in the castle. Some of them we would like more information, if anybody could tell us that would be great.
"We also have stories about the people who were in the castle so you can learn about the experience of what it was like to be a soilder here."
