The owner of Glenfiddich whisky has lost a legal battle to halt the construction of a £100m wind farm in Banffshire.

William Grant & Sons objected to the 59-turbine scheme, saying it would be too close to its distillery in Dufftown.

The distiller claimed it would spoil the surrounding countryside and put visitors off.

Its lawyers said the developers were given five years to start construction in 2011, which they claimed Dorenell had not done.

However, the Court of Session heard contractors had started upgrading roads near the site in August 2016 to allow construction to begin.

The drinks company's legal team argued Moray Council - which was responsible for overseeing the enforcement of the planning agreement - were wrong to allow the project to continue.

On Tuesday, judge lord Woolman ruled that Moray Council had acted correctly and said the planning agreement covered work on upgrading nearby roads.
