Climate Change Week North East to launch in city centre
The aim of the week is to raise awareness of climate change and people's carbon footprint.
Events are being held across Aberdeen to celebrate Climate Change Week North East and Earth Hour.
Ranging from a chance to look at the new mixed recycling plant to guided walks, the programme of events will run from Friday, March 16 until March 25.
The aim of the week is to raise awareness of climate change and show what people can do to make a difference and reduce their carbon footprint.
The events run by Aberdeen City Council will culminate in Earth Hour when the lights in Marischal College will be turned off at 8.30pm on March 24.
From tours of community renewable projects and permaculture organic farms to guided walks and bike rides, fashion shows, films, plays, art exhibits and talks, the week is designed to showcase the action happening and demonstrate what people can do to help.
There will be a Green Family Fun Day at Hazlehead Park on March 22, which will have a pets corner, stalls with hands-on activities and give people the chance to try out a range of bikes, including a unicycle.
Alison Stuart, director of Aberdeen Climate Action, said: "There are so many great initiatives taking place in the North East that concentrate on really reducing our carbon footprint.
"It is inspiring and heartening to see how everyone is coming together to create community renewable projects, promote and use local food, recycle and upcycle allsorts, walk and bike more, become more planet based in diet and really promote a sustainable lifestyle.
"Climate Week is a means of highlighting this and the actions we must take and how fun taking action can be and demonstrate the real benefits of reducing our carbon emissions and living more sustainably."
