Local midwives honoured with prestigious national award
Iona Duckett and Michelle Carter received their award in London on Tuesday.
Two midwives from Tayside have won a national award at the Royal College of Midwives Annual Midwifery Awards.
Iona Duckett and Michelle Carter were given the Policy into Practice award for introducing a caseload model of care.
The award recognises an outstanding, innovative project where creative thinking, sound research methodology and effective teamwork have combined to achieve real improvement in practice.
Ms Carter was also selected as the regional winner for Scotland in the Emma's Diary Mums' Midwife of the Year Award, that recognises the incredible work done by midwives across the country.
She was nominated by local mum Julie Davidson in the category that highlights midwives who helped "when nobody else would listen".
Chief midwife for NHS Tayside, Justine Craig, said: "I am very proud of Iona and the team on winning this prestigious award.
"The Angus team has developed a service which is truly innovative and women-centred.
"The team has worked hard to transform the service into this innovative and forward looking model.
"I am also delighted that Michelle has been chosen as the regional winner in a category which is nominated by mothers.
"This award recognises the high quality care Michelle has delivered and how it has made a positive impact on the mum and her family."
