Campaigners lose fight to save former community building
The historic Damacre building in Brechin is to be knocked down on Monday.
Campaigners say they are disappointed after losing their fight to save a former community centre in Angus from demolition.
The historic Damacre building in Brechin is to be knocked down to create ten new affordable homes.
Local residents had appealed to the council to halt the plans, but it has now been confirmed that work will begin on the site on Monday.
Campaigner Jill Scott said: "Everybody in Brechin has really fond memories of it, there won't be anybody that hasn't used it - youth clubs, schools.
"Laterally there have been loads of community groups using it, I think at the last count there was 22.
"So there are a lot of Brechin people that will have fond memories of it.
"They are all devastated that it's being demolished - they really feel they've not been listened to and that councillors have let them down."
