NHS Tayside is to undertake a site masterplan to tackle parking problems at Ninewells Hospital.

This follows a meeting with Dundee councillors who were looking for acknowledgement from officials that the hospital grounds are running out of parking space.

Some visitors claim they had to wait 45 minutes for a parking space, and local residents have complained their streets are being used for hospital parking.

Councillor Fraser Macpherson said: "I don't think I come away thinking there's an instant solution to the parking problem, that wouldn't be true, but what I can say that is that NHS staff are mindful of what the issues are.

"They're looking to do a site masterplan over the next 12 to 18 months to really evidence the issues of access, parking and use of the site into the longer term.

"I think that's really necessary if we're going to get to the bottom of how we tackle the problems at Ninewells hospital."
