Aberdeen backs campaign to support vulnerable adults
The first National Adult Support and Protection Day was held on Tuesday.
An Aberdeen committee has backed the first National Adult Support and Protection Day which was held across the country on Tuesday.
The national day highlights adults who are being harmed, neglected or taken advantage of, or appear to be at risk of it happening.
It covers the various types of adult harm, including physical, psychological, financial and sexual harm, and neglect.
The Aberdeenshire Adult Protection Committee provides guidance on reporting and responding to situations where it is suspected, alleged or known that a vulnerable adult has been abused.
Convener of the committee, Albert Donald, said: "We know from experience there are at risk adults in Aberdeenshire who are being subjected to abuse, but they may lack the ability, knowledge or support to challenge it.
"We know sometimes people don't want to get involved, for fear of being seen to intrude on other people's privacy or subject another person to unfair accusations.
"But our message is simple if you think an adult is at risk of harm and something feels wrong, you're right to get it checked out. If you see something, say something.
"Reporting suspected harm only takes one anonymous phone call and the authorities will check the situation sensitively and support will be given, if needed."
