Medication delays as Aberdeen Royal Infirmary flooded
The flooding at the hospital dispensary has caused "considerable damage".
Flooding at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary has caused "considerable damage" to the hospital dispensary.
Water has damaged robots used to transport stocks meaning medicine will have to be dispensed manually.
NHS Grampian said that this damage will cause delays for patients waiting on medicine.
Some patients are being asked to get prescriptions filled at a community pharmacy, while others will be required to wait for dispensing at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
These contingency arrangements will remain in place until February 19.
A representative from NHS Grampian said: "A flood at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary late on Monday evening has caused considerable damage to the hospital dispensary.
"This is impacting on the ability of pharmacy staff to dispense drugs.
"Our own staff, along with Scottish Fire and Rescue, worked hard to stop the water ingress and limit the damage. We are very grateful to them for all their efforts.
"A smaller dispensary is operational at Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital but it will not be able to match the capacity of the main dispensary.
"Unfortunately this will mean delays for patients in the coming days. However, we will continue to fill all prescriptions.
"It is important to stress that our main pharmacy stock holding area was unaffected and we still have access to a full range of medicines.
"We can only apologise to patients facing longer waits for their medicines and thank them in advance for their understanding."
The Aroma cafe also suffered flood damage and will be closed until further notice.
