Dundee City Council is stepping up efforts to fill vacant commercial buildings to help drive the city's economy.

Owners of Victorian and Edwardian offices, which are no longer fit for 21st century technology, are being urged to convert them into flats and houses.

The council currently has eight industrial, 24 retail and nine office units available to let, but there are more privately owned buildings that are empty or under used.

Councillor Lynne Short said: "Bringing jobs and prosperity is a complex and long term process but one of the key things we need to think about is our home grown talent and resources.

"There is great emphasis on the waterfront and we've got lots of schools and houses being built, but there are some amazing buildings that really do need a little TLC.

"We're working with someone who is changing the old registrars into a wonderful new restaurant, so we're hoping to lead by example and show that it can be done."
