Work on upgrading Broughty Ferry railway station will continue as planned despite the collapse of contractor Carillion.

Following concerns about the future of the work, councillor Craig Duncan wrote to the council to request assurances from Network Rail.

The project includes a 90m section of platform one being raised and rebuilt to improve the stepping distance from trains calling at the station.

Head of roads and transportation Neil Gellatly said: "I have received confirmation that, at this stage, the contractor will continue to undertake the works as planned on behalf of Network Rail at Broughty Ferry station."

Mr Duncan said: "I am grateful to officers at Dundee City Council for promptly getting assurances from Network Rail that it will ensure no negative impact on the work given the situation facing Carillion PLC.

"Not only is the platform work important - most of Queen Street Car Park is currently unusable as it has been commandeered for contractor vehicles and materials.

"We therefore want to see no delay in the works being completed and the car park returned for use by the public."
