Dundee residents warned of subscription trap danger
The event in the Overgate raised awareness for National Consumer Week.
Dundee residents have been warned about subscription traps during an awareness raising event in the Overgate during National Consumer Week.
An estimated two million people across the UK experience issues cancelling recurring payments for subscriptions without their authorisation.
Often, customer can unwittingly agree to a subscription through a free trial or a promotion.
Police Scotland also brought two ATM machines to the event that had been tampered with to highlight the precautions consumers should take.
Staff from local bank branches were in attendance to give advice to their customers.
Councillor Allan Ross said: "Our trading standards team are keen to help banks and financial institutions ensure their customers are protected from subscriptions issues.
"Continued payment authorisation can cause serious debt problems for consumers when left unmonitored, and we encourage businesses in Dundee to ensure their terms and conditions are clear and transparent."
