Four-day pop-up festival gets under way in Aberdeen
Festival! coincides with the 70th anniversary of Edinburgh's festivals.
A new four-day festival featuring music, film and science has been launched in Aberdeen.
The pop-up Festival! has been organised to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Edinburgh's festivals and will feature screenings, performances, workshops and events.
The opening will feature actors Sheila Hancock and Wendy Morgan and a screening of their new film Edie.
Culture minister Fiona Hyslop and chief executive of Creative Scotland Janet Archer are the keynote speakers.
Guest speakers include various festival leaders such as Edinburgh International Festival director Fergus Linehan.
Fiona Hyslop said: "Scotland's festivals are an opportunity to bring people together, push the boundaries, demonstrate our creativity and provide important social and economic benefits to local areas.
"The Scottish Government recognises the value of Scotland's cultural festivals and their role in enriching people's lives.
"I'm pleased that the Scottish Government was able to provide £100,000 through the Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund to support this week's pop-up festival and conference in Aberdeen.
"I expect the north east's rich and proud heritage and thriving contemporary arts scene to come through strongly."
