Residents have been warned to be on their guards against bogus workmen operating in Dundee.

It follows a 84-year-old man who was conned out money by a man offering roof repair services on Fintry Road.

The elderly man agreed for work to be done and parted with a two-figure sum of money.

Later, a number of other men arrived and claimed to have carried out work and demanded a four-figure sum of money, which he refused to pay and they left.

They were seen to leave the area in a white van with possibly the word "Countryside" written in green on the side.

An investigation is under way and anyone with information should Tayside Division on 101.

Officers are urging householders to be vigilant and neighbours to look out for one another.

A police spokesman said: "Bogus workmen have practised their sales patter with a view to sealing an instant deal.

"Do not accept or consent to have work done immediately.

"Take time to speak with friends, family, or neighbours, as well consumer advice organisations or the police about what the workman offered."
