Fatal accident inquiry into boxer Mike Towell's death
The 25-year-old Dundonian fell into a coma after being knocked down twice in the ring.
A fatal accident inquiry will be held into the death of Scottish boxer Mike Towell once an investigation led by specialist prosecutors has been completed.
The 25-year-old Dundonian fell into a coma on September 29 last year after being knocked down twice during his 13th professional fight.
A formal announcement has not yet been made but STV News understands the fatal accident inquiry is mandatory because the boxer died during the course of his employment.
A spokesman for the Crown Office said: "The procurator fiscal has received a report in connection with the death of a 25-year-old man in Glasgow on September 30, 2016.
"The investigation into the death, under the direction of the Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit, is ongoing and the family are being kept updated in relation to any significant developments."
The fatal accident inquiry will examine the circumstances surrounding Towell's death.
A sheriff will decide whether or not it could have been avoided and consider what can be done to prevent future deaths or injuries.
Ms Ross told a newspaper Towell had experienced headaches as he trained for the fight last September.
She said he had asked doctors for a brain scan but was told he was suffering from migraines.
The boxer's management team have said they were unaware of problems with headaches in the run up to the fight.
