Community councils quit group over £150m incinerator plan
Representatives from regions south of the River Dee have left the Energy from Waste group.
Four Aberdeen community councils have left a local authority-led group in protest over plans to create an incinerator in the city.
The councils, which sit south of the River Dee, have withdrawn from the Energy from Waste group that has been discussing the proposed £150m development at Torry.
Members of Torry Community Council wrote to the local authority to say they felt they were being used as "pawns" despite opposing the project.
They were joined by their counterparts in Nigg, Kincorth/Leggart and Cove/Altens.
The community groups the development because of the potential future air quality from the plant.
The incinerator will turn waste from homes in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray into energy.
