Social Says: Tesco replaces 5p bags after Aberdeen trial
Single-use bags will no longer be available in the chain's stores from August 28.
Tesco has announced it will scrap 5p carrier bags and replace them with new bags for life across the country following a trial in Aberdeen.
Single use bags will no longer be available in Tesco stores from August 28, with the new bags priced at 10p and sales going to community projects throughout Scotland.
Customers will be able to exchange their bags for life for free if they become damaged.
The move comes after the supermarket giant rolled out a ten-week trial at stores in the Granite City, Dundee and Norwich.
Many were split on the decision and took to social media.
Will Scott said: "I don't mind paying 10p for a bag as long as Tesco haven't branded their name on it.
"I'm not paying to advertise Tesco or any other supermarket, if they want free advertising then give us the bags for free, simple."
Linda Muirhead said: "Excellent idea, especially replacing damaged bags for free. Plus all proceeds going to community projects so I don't mind the advertising. Well done Tesco."
Heather MacBryde said: "They have been doing this for weeks on end, slowly taking away the cheap 5p bags so that they can get the expensive one's sold and money in their own pockets.
"It really is quite annoying that you have to pay out more and more every time."
Flora McArthur Arbuckle said: "Well done Tesco. I now keep bags in my car in case I forget again. Plastic carrier bags are a scourge on the environment."
