Children's charity must raise £100,000 to avoid cutbacks
Befriend a Child have until the end of September to raise the cash.
An Aberdeen children's charity needs to raise £100,000 or face cutting back vital services in the city.
Befriend a Child pairs up disadvantaged youngsters with trusted adults for days out and mentorship.
Befrienders typically meet their child twice a month and take them to restaurants, museums or just spend time with them offering a chance to talk to someone.
With 50 children on the waiting list for a Befriender, the charity fears it will no longer be able to provide companionship and support if it cannot hit its fundraising target by the end of September.
It is hoping the new Save our Smiles fundraising campaign can help secure its future.
Richard Stewart from the charity said: "We felt it was important to be honest with our supporter base that we do need extra support just now.
"It's a kind of perfect storm of situations. The oil price has had an impact on the economy, local authority funding has been reduced and restructured in how it's distributed.
"And it all comes at quite a challenging time anyway, so that's why we've come out with this appeal."
