'Kangaroo pouches' to help parents and babies bond
Aberdeen Maternity Hospital received the pouches as part of World Breastfeeding Week.
Specially designed pouches aimed to promote skin-to-skin contact between parents and newborns have been donated to Aberdeen Maternity Hospital neonatal unit.
The "kangaroo pouches" are aimed at promoting bonding between babies and new parents as well as supporting breastfeeding and helping to regulate temperature and breathing.
To celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, the pouches were donated by the the Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire National Childbirth Trust on Monday.
Infant feeding coordinator Anne-Marie Rennie said: "Being able to hold your baby skin-to-skin whilst being supported with the pouch will be really beneficial for baby's development, including their brain development, so it's really important that their babies are supported to be close to their parents."
Suzanne Davidson from the National Childbirth Trust said: "The in city branch that we have has got 30 plus volunteers and quite a lot of us have had neonatal babies and have understood there was a gap.
"It became an importance for us to get that funding and do some fundraising to provide something extra for the neonatal unit to use."
