Dundee residents who take pride in their close, garden or allotment could be in for a prize as part of a city-wide competition.

The council-run contest aims to reward those who take an interest in stairs, landings and communal areas, as well as gardens and allotments.

Entries close on July 21, with last year's event contributing to Dundee receiving a silver medal at the Beautiful Scotland awards.

Kevin Cordell convener of the council's neighbourhood services committee, said: "These competitions are a great way to encourage the community, including schools, citizens and businesses to take pride and interest in the city and I hope that more budding gardeners will get involved and enter this year.

"I am also delighted to be able to welcome back the Best Kept Close Competition after its introduction last year.

"It shone a spotlight on Dundee residents who work together with their neighbours to make their close or landing the best kept and again I look forward to seeing more entries this time round."

He added: "I am sure that the garden, allotment and best kept close competition will encourage the people of Dundee to take pride in their little bit of the city and to work together to make them the best kept."
