Dangerous wall cordoned off for three-month inspection
Fife Council have apologised for any disruption caused by the project.
A dangerous retaining wall on the south side of St Andrews has been cordoned off ahead of a three-month inspection.
Fife Council will inspect the wall at Canongate with high sections of the structure leaning outwards with a noticeable horizontal crack.
Officials say they issue will be monitored until a suitable solution is found.
Bernardo Morote, consultant engineer, said: "This wall is around 40 years old and was built as part of a road widening scheme following the decommissioning of the railway.
"The condition of the wall needs further investigation before remedial works are carried out.
"As a precaution a section of the wall is being cordoned off."
Temporary barriers have been put in place with the westbound carriageway closed to traffic.
A bus stop on the route have been moved temporarily to ensure other vehicles can pass freely while cyclists are not affected.
Mr Morote added: "We apologise for any inconvenience and delay caused by these essential works and we'll try to keep any disturbance to a minimum.
"Your patience and cooperation during this time is appreciated."
