Sprinkler system not fitted on ten city tower blocks
Abertay University are looking into cladding used on part of one of its buildings.
Ten tower blocks in Dundee do not have a sprinkler system which could help save lives, a new investigation has revealed.
Tests have been carried out by local authorities across the country in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire, which killed at least 80 people.
Last week, Abertay University announced it would conduct tests on the cladding used on a part of one of its buildings following the London tragedy.
Since 2005, the law has required local authorities to install sprinklers within new tower blocks.
A senior firefighter said sprinklers were a "proven" way to prevent the spread of fire in buildings and could "drastically reduce the threat to life".
Dave Curry, chief officer for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, told the BBC: "Time and again, sprinklers have been proven to prevent the spread of fire in buildings and drastically reduce the threat to life."
