Sprinkler system not fitted on 59 city tower blocks
Aberdeen City Council have considered fitting the system within areas of the city.
More than 50 tower blocks in Aberdeen do not have a sprinkler system which could help save lives, a new investigation has revealed.
Tests have been carried out by local authorities across the country in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire, which killed at least 80 people.
Figures obtained by BBC Scotland showed 59 blocks are without the system.
Since 2005, the law has required local authorities to install sprinklers within new tower blocks.
A senior firefighter said sprinklers were a "proven" way to prevent the spread of fire in buildings and could "drastically reduce the threat to life".
Dave Curry, chief officer for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Time and again, sprinklers have been proven to prevent the spread of fire in buildings and drastically reduce the threat to life."
