Sprinkler systems may be fitted in tower blocks in Aberdeen in the wake of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, according to the local authority.

A full assessment of buildings is being carried out by Aberdeen City Council as well as the fire service officials.

Several measures are being considered in the wake of the disaster in London, with sprinkler systems one option under review in the north east.

A council spokeswoman said: "We are carrying out a full assessment on each building and once we have an outcome from the assessments, we will liaise with Scottish Fire and Rescue colleagues, and any measures taken will be in consultation with them.

"Our focus remains in the safety of our residents and tenants."

Cladding, which was thought to have contributed to the speed of the blaze, was found in a tower block on student flats in Edinburgh earlier this week.
