Aberdeen is fast becoming the best place in the UK to spot bottlenose dolphins, according to RSPB Dolphinwatch.

The dolphins are predominately found on the outskirts of Moray and Wales, and Aberdeen is quickly becoming their favourite spot.

Bottlenose dolphins can hold their breath for up to ten minutes, and can adapt to both warm and cold climates.

Up to 30 dolphins have been spotted at one time over the last few weeks in Aberdeen, and the RSPB is urging more families to take a look.

They have released a special activity booklet detailing the different events and timings on offer for dolphin-lovers, and are urging the public to take part in self-guided activities at Torry Battery.

Families will be encouraged to spot dolphin behaviours, listen for wild sounds and discover the different colours and textures of nature.

RSPB Scotland's Dolphinwatch team are on hand at Torry Battery until August 20, and are equipped with binoculars and telescopes provided by Viking Optical.

Dolphinwatch officer Amy Hopley said: "That we regularly see dolphins in the busy harbour in Aberdeen is really special. We're here every week helping people to spot these amazing animals and run a variety of family events including a Schools Out Family Fun Day on Sunday 2 July.

"But the new activity packs will mean that there is something exciting for families to do, together, every day. We hope to inspire the next generation about nature and help them create wild childhood memories.

"After all, saving nature depends on it."
