Pupils can take part in climbing sessions as a new facility opens at an Aberdeen school.

Built in an unused classroom at Northfield Academy, the state of the climbing wall is a first for the city.

The bouldering wall has 30 climbing routes and 20 set problems to challenge young people.

Sessions will be led by fully trained school staff and pupils can work toward SQA qualifications and Mountaineering Scotland climbing awards.

Acting Head Teacher at Northfield Academy, Mike Will said: "Our climbing room is a fantastic resource for our pupils to be inspired and challenged and represents a significant investment in the health and well-being of young people in the Northfield community.

"We are grateful for the support of our generous donors and supporters who have transformed this project vision into a reality for our pupils to aspire to be outstanding."
