Britain's most successful female Olympian and a television star will be honoured by the University of Dundee.

They are among six distinguished figures picking up honorary degrees at the university's summer graduation ceremony on Wednesday and Thursday.

Rower Dame Katherine Grainger is the only woman to have won medals at five consecutive Olympic Games, rounding off her career at the Rio Games with a silver medal to bring her Olympic haul to one gold and four silver medals.

She was also awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa (DHC) from Aberdeen university on Tuesday June 20.

Six-time Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award winning actor Alan Alda will also be honoured at the ceremony.

Although best known for star roles in M*A*S*H and the West Wing, Alan is also a passionate science advocate, and presented US television show Scientific American Frontiers for 14 years.

Other recipients include Turner Prize-winning artist Susan Phillipsz, chief executive of ARCHIE Foundation David Cunningham, and 'Hell Or High Water' director David McKenzie.
