Aberdeen Highland Games is returning to the city for the 57th years on Sunday.

Coinciding with Father's Day, large crowds are expected to descend on Hazlehead Park from 10am to take part in traditional events, entertainment and activities.

Spectators will get the chance to see heavy events, solo piping and pipe band competitions, drum major competitions, track and field events, Highland dancing and the Scottish tug o war championship.

Former stars of popular children's show the Singing Kettle will take to the stage in a live Highland Fling show at 11.30am and 3pm.

Aberdeen lord provost Barney Crocket said: "I'm really looking forward to attending my first Aberdeen Highland Games in my new role, seeing the traditional piping, dancing and events which are at its heart.

"As it takes place on Father's Day it'll be great to see different generations enjoying the events which form part of the region's rich history and heritage."

Aberdeen City Council announced on Thursday that there would be bag searches at the event and visitors should allow extra time to enter the games.

Temporary road closures and waiting restrictions will be in place.

Hazlehead Avenue will be closed from its junction with the recycling centre to the bus turning circle for the event from 8am until 6pm.
