A new method that could enhance the search for missing people will be revealed at a conference in Dundee.

The three-day International Conference of Missing Persons has attracted experts in the field from around the world.

Delegates arrived at Abertay University on Wednesday to discuss a wide range of topics relating to "missing" issues.

Held every two years, subject areas include the identification and recovery of bodies, responses to young runaways in Tayside and coping with dementia-related "wander walkers".

As part of the event, a new method of ageing facial images that could enhance the search for long-term missing people worldwide will be unveiled.

Researchers used the case of Ben Needham, who went missing on a Greek island as a toddler in 1991, as a test image for the project and have created fresh pictures of what he may look like today.

Professor Hassan Ugail, who is leading the research, he said: "Each year around 300,000 missing person cases are recorded in the UK alone.

"This has been part of our motivation in endeavouring to improve current techniques of searching for missing people, particularly those who have been missing for some considerable time."
