One of Dundee's most popular attractions is getting set for summer after months of refurbishment.

Work to re-rig masts on the historic RRS Discovery starts this week, giving visitors a new view of the vessel.

In the latest change to the city's waterfront, the Discovery's masts will be put back up following six months of work at a specialist shipyard in Gloucester.

The repair programme was funded partly by a crowdfunding campaign, which raised more than £40,000 and was fronted by TV presenter Lorraine Kelly.

The Discovery exhibition, which tells the story of the building of the ship in Dundee through to Captain Scott and his crew's gruelling expedition to the Antarctic.

Dundee Heritage Trust's Paul Jennings said: "This is a rare chance for the public to see RRS Discovery being put back together after the important restoration and preservation work that has been done on her rigging and masts over the last six months.

"Since the work was largely funded by our highly successful crowdfunding campaign, it's an opportunity of supporters and the people of Dundee to see the results of their generous donations."
