Primary pupils at two Aberdeen primary schools have dressed in traditional Chinese outfits and performed Mandarin songs as part of the opening of a new languages hub.

Children from Danestone and Glashieburn primary will boost their skills as part of the programme, which will enable pupils to become fluent two languages by 2020.

The special hub at Oldmachar Academy aims to promote joint planning of cultural activities, sharing ideas and resources to stimulate the learning and teaching of Chinese language and culture.

The schools are two of five primary schools in Scotland taught Mandarin from primary one through to S6 as part of agreement with Scottish and Chinese governments.

Four secondary pupils from Aberdeen will also undertake a two-week studying trip in Beijing this summer.
