Council chiefs have vowed to stop illegal parking near a Dundee primary school after safety concerns were raised.

Residents on Arbroath Road have complained about drivers parking their cars on a section of pavement close to the entrance to Baxter Park.

The busy road sits beside Glebelands Primary School with parents using the route to drop off children.

Police Scotland has placed traffic cones at the site in an attempt to prevent people parking there.

While the cones are a temporary solution, a number of permanent options to tackle the problem are being considered including the installation of bollards.

Councillor Lynne Short has suggested using large tubs with flowers to deter the drivers instead of the bollards.

She said: "Here in Dundee we are very much proud of our city, so my suggestion is to contact the Community Justice Group to ask if they could organise tubs with flowers as an opportunity for a community project.

"The school is so close, its worrying that something terrible might happen."

Police and council are monitoring the area until a decision can me made.
