Tesco has scrapped 5p plastic carrier bags at all its shops in Dundee.

The supermarket giant has launched a ten-week trial to try out the policy, which will mean shoppers who do not bring their own bag will need to buy a bag for life costing 8p or 10p.

Along with the outlets in Dundee and Aberdeen, Tesco rolled out the trial in Norwich and if considered successful it could be rolled out nationwide.

Shoppers took to social media to have their say on the move.

Kenneth Milne said: "5p bag charge.... it is ridiculous that we the public the people who keep these places open have to pay 5p per bag."

Rena Stevenson added: "You are lucky if the Tesco 5p bag lasts from the shop to the car without splitting! Worse bags ever! Take your own."

Karen Salveta is happy with the move, saying: "I just take my bags for life shopping with me and when one of them bursts or breaks I take it back to the shop and they give you a new one for free."
