RRS Discovery awarded £50,000 for conservation work
The expedition ship received the donation in memory of adventurer Henry Worsley.
The charity behind the RRS Discovery has received £50,000 in the name of adventurer Henry Worsley.
The intrepid Polar adventurer died last year attempting to cross Antarctica on foot and now the Headley Trust have made the donation in his memory.
Dundee Heritage Trust will use the award to carry out critical conservation work on captain Robert Falcon Scott's Antarctic expedition ship.
Executive director of Dundee Heritage Trust, Paul Jennings said: "We are extremely grateful to the Headley Trust for awarding us this money, which will go a long way towards helping us with our current rigging conservation project, and to improving the whole visitor experience.
"The fact that the money was awarded to us in honour of Henry Worsley, as intrepid an explorer as Scott and his crew, makes it poignant, yet fitting."
