An Aberdeenshire man is lending his voice to a new national awareness drive around kidney donation.

Nicholas Allan from Garlogie was listed for a transplant in December 2015 after issues diagnosed in his childhood caused his kidney function to slowly decline.

The 33-year-old started dialysis the following February and now spends five days a week dialysing for three hours, as well as holding down a full-time job.

Nicholas, who will walk up the aisle with fiancee Philippa this August, says a transplant would change everything and he wants more people to consider living donation.

He said: "My life is centred around my treatment and it can be hard at times. When you see someone in the ward getting a transplant it does lift you and give you a bit of hope but the wait can wear you down.

"The support of the staff at the renal unit is just amazing however, with a level of care that is second to none.

"I have the hope that one day the generosity of another person will mean I can get a second chance at life and that would mean everything."

An event will be held at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary's Lecture Theatre 012 in the Suttie Centre at Foresterhill from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on May 25.
