Hometown Hero is a series celebrating some of the area's best known and widely-loved names.

Separating an artist from their art can be difficult and Rose Leslie is no exception.

The Downton Abbey star, who was born in Aberdeen, comes from a noble family and was raised at Lickleyhead Castle, her family's 15th century ancestral seat.

She picked up the acting bug during her time at Rayne North School in Inverurie before heading to London to pursue larger roles.

Landing the role of Wilding warrior Ygritte in HBO smash Game of Thrones catapulted Leslie to a new level of fame.

Her line "You know nothing, Jon Snow" is one of the most popular of the series.

Despite her success in the UK and US, the 30-year-old still misses her home in the north east.

"I have such a love and affinity for the place, I adore it," she said.

"We're north of Aberdeen in the middle of the countryside, all trees and nature. I feel very much at peace in Scotland."
