Minecraft teams will take on the challenge of designing a Dundee University building in the virtual world.

In addition to the main challenge, friends and families will have the chance to craft an iconic building in the game on the Xbox One at the event this weekend.

The 50-hour jam and family event is part of the university's 50th anniversary celebrations at the Dalhousie building on Old Hawkhill.

Minecraft enables players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D generated world and is the second best-selling video game of all time.

Professor Sir Pete Downes, principal and vice-chancellor of the university, said: "Teams from across Tayside and beyond will compete to craft a brand new building in Minecraft with support from 4J Studios, who have previously built the V&A Museum of Design, Dundee, in the virtual world and we absolutely cannot wait to see what they build here on campus."
