Hometown Hero is a series celebrating some of the area's best known and widely-loved names.

Born in Aberdeen in 1969, Paul Lawrie is still the last Scottish golfer to have won a major following his victory in the Open Championship in Carnousite in 1999.

With two Ryder Cup and three Seve Trophy appearances, a Royal Trophy and playing more than 500 events on the European tour, Lawrie still finds time to cheer on his beloved Aberdeen football team.

In 2001, he set up the Paul Lawrie Foundation, which aims to support young people taking up golf and in 2013 was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours for the work of his foundation.

Later this year, Lawrie will play former European Ryder Cup teammate Nicolas Colsaerts in his annual challenge match.
